On October 30, Southeast University and CRBC(China Road and Bridge Cooperation) signed a strategic cooperation agreement for joint talent cultivation, teachers’ exchange and scientific researches in engineering field centering on the “Belt and Road” Initiative. SEU invited CRBC Chairman Lu Shan as its adjunct researcher, and SEU President Zhang Guangjun issued the Letter of Appointment and school badge to CRBC Chairman Lu Shan.

On that day, the opening ceremony was held for 10 Pakistan students fully funded by CRBC who will participate in the two-year post-graduate education program of transport engineering in School of Transportation.

Among the attendees were SEU President Zhang Guangjun, CRBC Chairman Lu Shan, Arshad Ali- Executive Director of Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, Siraj Ahmad Khan- the Counselor of Pakistan in China, as well as the leaders from Department of International Cooperation of National Development and Reform Commission of the People’s Republic of China (NDRC).

With the constantly deepening of the “Belt and Road” Initiative and construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, the demands of countries along the Belt & Road and corridor for high-end technical and management talents increase continuously. As an important participant and implementer of the “Belt and Road” Initiative, CRBC has funded a total of 292 students from Kenya, the Republic of Congo, Senegal, Equatorial Guinea, Angola, Togo and other countries to further their study in China as of the first half of 2017. With the great support from the education ministries of Pakistan and China, as well as NDRC, CRBC has launched the “Inheritance of China-Pakistan Friendship, Hundred-personnel Sponsorship Program”, and it will fully fund 100 in-service staff, technicians and excellent outstanding graduates recommended by the Federal Government of Pakistan and various provincial governments to participate in the two-year post-graduate education program of transport engineering in SEU under the cooperation agreement signed by CRBC and SEU within 5 years, in a bid to provide support to the “Belt and Road” Initiative. The Program is aimed to cultivate high-end talents in transport engineering for Pakistan.

SEU President Zhang Guangjun noted that the cooperation agreement signed with CRBC not only demonstrates a new platform and start point for the cooperation between university and enterprise, but also a new initiative proposed by China and Pakistan in higher education, and a vivid model for the proactive response of Chinese universities in practicing the “Belt and Road” Initiative and cooperating with the enterprise for win-win development.

The representative of Department of International Cooperation, NDRC noted in the speech that the “Inheritance of China-Pakistan Friendship, Hundred-personnel Sponsorship Program” vividly represents China and Pakistan’s proactive promotion of cultural and educational exchanges in the principle of “achieving shared growth through discussion and collaboration”, and further enriches the connotations of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
