东大交院云论坛曁 “阡陌交通、中西交融”交通工程大师论坛第三讲即将开讲!

本场讲座将由,美国弗吉尼亚理工大学汪林兵教授带来。

汪林兵教授简介:

Dr. Linbing Wang is a professor in civil engineering materials and transportation infrastructure at Virginia Tech, and an adjunct professor at the National Center for Materials Service Safety of University of Science and Technology Beijing. He is the founding chair for the Committee on Mechanics of Pavements, former Chair of the Nanomechanics and Micromechanics committee, and a Fellow of the Engineering Mechanics Institute of ASCE. Dr. Wang has led more than 70 research projects funded by NSF, NCHRP, FHWA, DoD, DoA, DoTs, MOST and CNSF. Specific foci of his research include multiscale characterization, modeling and simulation; smart and sustainable technologies; energy harvesting and sensor development; laser interferometry for material characterization and pavement assessment; health monitoring; innovative infrastructure assessment and performance predictions; high performance and multifunctional materials; pavement testing and mechanistic pavement design; infrastructure preservation and management; and IoT sensor network for structural health monitoring. Dr. Wang has served as a member of committees of TRB, ASCE, and panels of NCHRP and NSF. He is the author of Mechanics of Asphalt, Microstructure and Micromechanics, McGraw Hill, and author/co-author of more than 220 publications. Dr. Wang has organized/co-organized a number of international workshops, symposiums, conferences and hosted student/faculty exchanges with universities in China and Europe.

Vibrations and waves are ubiquitous. They carry various types of information about the characteristics of excitations, both internal and external interactions, fracturing and deforming processes, and many mechanical and electromagnetic properties of the transmitting media such as pavements. The frequency, magnitude and phase change of mechanical waves (MW) are tightly associated with the excitation force characteristics such as loading magnitudes, loading speeds, and the viscoelastic material properties of the transmitting media. Similarly, the electromagnetic wave (EMW) characteristics are tightly associated with the EM properties of the transmitting media. Measuring the MW and EMW, and the mechanical vibratory characteristics of transmitting media such as asphalt and cement concrete pavement will present useful information about the health status of pavements. This seminar will cover the fundamental mechanisms of MW and EMW as applied to pavement assessments and monitoring. It will also include the use of acoustic emission, MW and EMW propagation characteristics such as laser interference in pavement assessments and monitoring.
