Lin Ming

Lin Ming, Southeast University 1978 port aquaculture professional alumni, is the chief engineer of China Communications Construction Co. Ltd. and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Island Tunnel Project. He was awarded the National Excellent Communist Party Member (the first party member of the parade) in 2016, and was on CCTV documentary I am a Communist Party member commemorating the 95th anniversary of the Communist Party of China.

  

  

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is a world-class transportation cluster project integrating bridges, islands and tunnels, connecting Hong Kong in the east and Zhuhai and Macao in the west, with a total length of nearly 50 kilometers. As a “World Class Project”, its designed service life is 120 years and the total investment has surpassed 100 billion RMB. The island tunnel project undertaken by the China Federation of Trade Unions, including a 5.6-kilometer deep buried immersed tunnel and two 100,000-square-meter offshore artificial islands is the most difficult part of the project. In particular, the deep buried immersed tube of nearly 6 kilometers is the most difficult immersed tunnel in the world nowadays.

  

Facing such problems, Lin Ming has showed confidence and preciseness: We must create a 'first' in the unique', with our Chinese wisdom and bravery.”

  

Innovation: a world-class leader in cutting-edge technology

  

After years of hard work, Lin’s team has developed “fast island building technology, semi-rigid immersed tube structure, composite foundation treatment, and deep water deep sinking for pipe installation and construction” four core technologies, making a strong and effective response to the engineering difficulties.

  


Responsibilities: ordinary builders interpreting Chinese dream

  

Chinese engineers have relied on their own strength to overcome new construction problems, not only to create new records, but more importantly to promote the practice of science and technology innovation in the country and the industry. After the bridge was completed, Lin Ming reached the age of retirement. The last super work in his career has become the main focus of Lin Ming's current work and life: I am just an ordinary Chinese builder. The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Island Tunnel Project is a cutting-edge dream of my professional career. I believe that if one or two world-class dreams can be realized in each industry, then the Chinese dream will sooner be achieved.

   


Create a first in the unique

  

There are many “first” for the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Island Tunnel Project: the construction of a large-scale deep-water immersed tunnel in the outer sea is the first in China; the construction of a large steel cylinder into the island is the first in the world; the prefabrication of concrete with a weight of 80,000 tons The construction of the component factory method is the first in the world... Lin Ming said: “The 'first' means that every step of the project implementation needs to be explored.”

During the bridge’s construction, Lin’s team has made 64 technological innovations and more than 400 patentsincluding deep buried immersed pipes, rapid islands, tunnel foundations, factory prefabricated immersed pipes, deep sea trenches and etc. Chinese engineers have provided new knowledge and construction experiences to the world's underwater tunnel engineering technology.

  


 Bridge’s value lies in carrying, and a human’s value lies in responsibility.

  

Our country has entrusted us with a ‘super project’, and we must finish our part. The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is a key stage to show China's national strength. And we are fortunate to be the main actors. We will put problem-solving to the first priority in our work.”

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge immersed tunnel is the only deep buried immersed tunnel in the world. After a series of experiments and research, the technical team proposed a semi-rigid immersed tube structure.

On July 7, 2017, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Cross-Harbour Tunnel was officially completed, marking the world's longest cross-sea bridge - the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge has achieved full-scale construction of the main project.
