HUANG Wei

Huang Wei, Cheung Kong Chair Distinguished Professor, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, is Ph.D. supervisor and a member of the National Intelligent Transportation System Expert committee. He is also the academic leader of Traffic Information Engineering and Control discipline at Southeast University, China. Professor Huang graduated from the Department of Civil Engineering of Nanjing Institute of Technology in 1982, 1985 for bachelor and master respectively, and obtained his doctor's degree in Southeast University in 1994. He was a senior visiting scholar at the University of California at Berkeley from 1993 to 1994. He was named Ten Outstanding Youths in Jiangsu Province and pace-setters in the new long march in Jiangsu Province in 1996. He was also selected as a cross-century talent of the Ministry of Education at the same time. He was selected as a national candidate for the “Millions of Talent Projects” of seven ministries and commissions including the Ministry of Personnel in 1997. Then he was awarded the title of “Young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions to the nation” and approved to receive the special government allowances from the State Council.He served as Dean of School of Transportation, Executive Vice President of Southeast University, Director of Jiangsu Provincial Construction Department, Vice Governor of Jiangsu Province, Vice Minister of Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Deputy Director of Science and Technology Committee of Ministry of Construction, Deputy Mayor of Beijing Municipality, and Member of Standing Committee of CPC Leading Group as well as Executive Vice Chairman of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, successively. He is currently the Vice Minister and Member of CPC Leading Group of Ministry of Science and Technology, and Director of the ITS Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Education at Southeast University as well.
Professor Huang has made outstanding contributions to bridge deck design theory and engineering construction, road structure testing and traffic management as well. Specially, he established the design method and complete key technologies for long-span bridges deck pavement in China, which solved the major technical problems in the construction of long-span bridges. His monograph “Theory and Method of Deck Paving Design for Long-span Bridges” was awarded the first “100 original books of science and technology” by the State Press and Publication Administration. He has obtained a series of invention patents for new multi-component epoxy asphalt materials, which have been applied in more than 20 long-span bridge projects such as Su Tong Yangtze River Bridge, Shanghai Yangtze River Bridge, Wuhan Tianxingzhou Yangtze River Bridge, and so on. These greatly promoted the development of long-span bridges construction in China.
LIN Ming

Lin Ming, Chief Engineer of China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, currently serves as Chief Engineer of CCCC and General Manager and Chief Engineer of the Island and Tunnel Project Management Department of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. Born in October 1957, he was admitted to Nanjing Communications Vocational College (which merged into Southeast University in 2000) in 1978, majoring in Port and Hydraulic Engineering in the class of 1978. In 2015, he was awarded the honorary title of "National Model Worker" by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council. He was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2021.
Lin has long been engaged in bridge, tunnel, and marine engineering technologies. Leading his team to overcome challenges, he has successively presided over the completion of national key projects such as the Runyang Bridge and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Island and Tunnel Project. He has tackled more than ten world-class engineering challenges in offshore immersed tube installation, advancing China's island and tunnel construction to the international forefront, earning him the reputation as the "Anchor of Stability."The island and tunnel project represents the most challenging component of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge construction, with no mature experience available for reference in design or construction. In particular, offshore immersed tube tunnel installation, due to its extreme difficulty, has been dubbed a "tightrope-walking project." Only a handful of countries worldwide have mastered the core technologies, and China's technical accumulation in this field was virtually nonexistent.
Leading his team through painstaking research and problem-solving, Lin independently developed more than ten specialized equipment and systems that were unprecedented domestically and world-leading, obtained hundreds of patents, and successfully conquered over ten world-class engineering challenges in offshore immersed tube installation. His achievements include creating numerous world engineering miracles: completing island construction in the same year groundbreaking began, installing ten immersed tube sections within one year—a "China Speed," pouring one million cubic meters of concrete without a single crack, and building the world's only leak-free immersed tube tunnel. These accomplishments pioneered offshore immersed tube tunnel construction in China and propelled the nation's island and tunnel engineering capabilities to the international advanced level.
