Jian (Ronald) Zhang is the deputy director of the academic affairs office at Southeast University (SEU), and the Deputy Director of Research Center for National Transport Strong Strategy at SEU. He is a Professor of Transportation Engineering, and the vice chief of the Department of Intelligent Transportation and Spatial Informatics at SEU. From 2013 - 2021, he served as the Deputy and Executive Vice Director of Research Center for Internet of Mobility at SEU. From 2017 - 2021, he served as the Assistant to the Dean of Joint Research Institute on Internet of Mobility, Southeast University and University of Wisconsin - Madison. From 2021 - 2022, he served as the Associate Dean of School of Engineering at Tibet University. He received the B.S. in applied mathematics and Ph.D. in transportation engineering from Southeast University in 2006 and 2011, respectively. He was a Visiting Scholar at University of Wisconsin – Madison from 2009 to 2010. He has been on the faculty at SEU since 2012. Ronald has authored ten books, over 40 patents, and over 200 articles in peer reviewed journals and conferences. He is the recipient of the Zhishan Young Scholar Award from SEU, 2018, of the Chinese Highway Youth Science and Technology Award from the China Highway and Transportation Society (CHTS), 2020 and he won the Science and Technology Innovation Youth Award of the China Communications and Transportation Association (CCTA), 2021. His projects Intelligent Public Transit Scheduling and Highway Intelligent Operation received the First Prize of Technology Invention by the Ministry of Education, and the First and Second Prizes of Science and Technology of CHTS, 2019 and 2023, respectively. Ronald is the recipient of the young and middle-aged science and technology leaders of Jiangsu Province's 333 High Level Talent Training Project, 2021, and High level Leading Talent Training Plan of Jiangsu Province's transportation industry, 2022.

Research Interests
Prof. Zhang conducts interdisciplinary research at the interface between Transportation Engineering, ITS, and Artificial Intelligence, with a focus on cyber-physical transportation systems. Specifically, his scholarly interests concern traffic flow monitoring, modeling, and control, big data, public transit, vehicle scheduling, evaluation of connected and automated vehicles, and cooperative automated driving.
