Introduction to the Course (including objectives and requirements)

As a specialized optional course for the masters, thiscourse is to be taught in English. The course aims to help student learnvarious technology of ITS (Intelligent Transportation System), master theknowledge how these can work together and take effect. The privacy and socialproblem brought about by the advanced technology in ITS will also be taught.

Introduction to the Main Instructor:

Geoff Rose, has 20 years of professional experience incommunications and transportation and enjoys high reputation in the fields ofacademy, politics and engineering consultation; Engages in the professionalactivities like sustainable transportation and application under advancedtechnology; enjoys high reputation in the field of travelling behavior changeand transportation demand management; recent focuses on evaluation of eco-drivingtraining measurement and the influence of personal driving habit to transportsystem; A member of Australia Transportation Planning and Management Committee;He also works in American TRB Transportation Demand Management GroupABE50.

Xia Jingxin, doctor and associate professor, got hisMaster’s Degree in the Discipline of Traffic Information Engineering andControl of SEU in March, 2002 and his Doctor’s Degree in the Discipline of CivilEngineering of American University of Kentucky; and from 2006.10-2008.07, heworked as assistant researcher in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineeringof American University of Virginia.

For a long time, Dr. Xia has been devoted to theteaching and research on the operation and management of ITS, specializing inITS, the theory of traffic flow and the operation and management technology ofITS. He has published 20 papers, including 8 SCI papers, and taken part in manyessential projects of U.S. Federal Highway Administration, U.S. KentuckyDepartment of Transportation and U.S. Virginian Department of Transportation. Asmember of the Committee of Information Technology of ASCE, he is now the paperreviewer for many international academic publications and internationalconferences, including Journal of Transportation Engineering and TransportationResearch Record.
