Graduate Program for Transportation Engineering of SEU-Monash joint graduate students

东南大学—莫纳士大学交通运输工程联合研究生培养计划

Brief Introduction

Transportation engineering is the major academic discipline of School of Transportation in SoutheastUniversity. It is developed from the Road Engineering team of Civil Engineering Department, School of Engineering in the former CentralUniversity, and the road engineering teaching and research group of Civil Engineering Department in Nanjing Institute of Technology during the 1950s and 1980s.

Transportation engineering, which is categorized as the first-class discipline, is constitute of the following sub-disciplines: “Transportation Planning and Management”---the national key discipline; “Highway and Railway Engineering” --- the national key discipline; and “Transportation Information Engineering and Control System”--- the national key discipline; “Application Engineering of Transportation Vehicles”-- the national key discipline. All of the disciplines have doctoral authority and have post-doctoral authority.

SoutheastUniversity (SEU) is one of the national key universities administered directly under the Ministry of Education of China. It is also one of the first universities accredited by the State Council to determine and approve the qualifications of professors, associate professors and doctorial supervisors independently. Moreover, it is one of the universities of Project 211 and Program 985 that is financed by the central government to build as a world-class university. School of transportation at SEU is ranked 2nd nationally in transportation engineering discipline. Similarly MonashUniversity is also one of the top universities in Australia with cutting-edge research and education in transportation related research areas.

It is therefore proposed that a SEU-MonashUniversityJointTransportationResearchCenter will be established at the Suzhou campus of the SoutheastUniversity, with financial support from Jiangsu provincial government and Suzhou municipal government. The proposed joint research center allows researchers from SEU and Monash university to work together to improve driving safety, durability and sustainability of transportation infrastructure and other transportation systems knowledge. It also serves as the educational center for prospective graduate students in transportation engineering and a base to host future exchange students.

Research Areas

The joint research center is expected to provide an intellectually stimulating atmosphere so as to engage advanced studies in Transportation Engineering, such as:

l  Highway Network Planning and Operations

l  Traffic safety and injury prevention

l  Urban Transportation Planning and Management

l  Intelligent Transportation Systems

l  Transportation Infrastructures Construction and Structural Design

l  Sustainability of Pavement Materials Recycling and Rejuvenation Technologies

l  Life-cycle Analysis and Assessment of Transportation Infrastructures
