The School has conducted 207 national major research projects, including National Major Basic Research Program 973, National High-Tech R&D Program 863, National Sci-Tech Support Plan to Tackle Key Difficulties and National Natural Science Foundation of China. The School is also active in a series of major engineering projects in China, e.g. Smooth Traffic Project (Leading Institute), Expressway, Yangtze River Bridge, Metro projects, National Road Traffic Safety Technology Action Plan, etc. The achievements include 11 National Scientific and Technological Progress Awards, 1 National Technological Invention Award, 126 scientific and technological progress awards at provincial and ministerial levels, with the research funding of over 0.5 billion RMB in the recent five years.

State ‘Smooth Traffic Project’: As the expert team leader unit of ‘Smooth Traffic Project’, the school has established Urban Traffic Control Planning Technology System and offered technological support for simultaneous development of ‘Smooth Traffic Project’in over 600 cities in China. It has also conducted the job of urban traffic planning system in over 200 cities and has accomplished more than 140 traffic planning projects in different areas:
