Prof. CHENG Jianchuan presented in the ASEE's 2019 Annual Conference

On June 16-19, 2019, the 126th ASEE's Annual Conference and Exposition was held at the Tampa Convention Center, Florida, USA. On the morning of the 16th, the grand opening ceremony was held. More than 4,000 delegates attended the conference and more than 700 sessions were held in the conference. Among them, the International Division had a total of 5 sessions and 32 papers were podium or poster presented. 1759 papers were included in the conference proceedings.

On the afternoon of June 18, Prof. CHENG Jianchuan of the School of Transportation, SEU presented his paper entitled Field Programs to Accomplish the Learning Objectives for Engineering Courses: A Case Study of the Road Surveying and Design Course at Southeast University, China, aiming to show the positive effect of the field program related to Road Surveying and Design course for the accomplishment of course objectives. The presented paper covered the two keywords, field programs and accomplishment of course objectives (engineering education accreditation). Through three methods such as student self-evaluation, comparison between students taking field practice and who don’t, surveys of the domestic teachers who taught Road Surveying and Design and supervised the field practice, it is proved that taking field practice has obvious advantages in teamwork, solving engineering practical problems, personal communication skills, hard work and professional emotional training when comparing to non-field practice. At the president’s farewell reception on the evening of June 19, the paper was presented as poster again. Both the podium and poster presentations achieved good effect and feedback.
