Remote sensing technology has been widely used in the field of structural health monitoring. In this presentation, a data fusion based computing framework, sensing mechanism and real time (SMART) computing for civil structures, will be introduced. The SMART computing consists of (1) a real-time computing algorithm based on hybrid data fusion techniques using Kalman filter; and (2) SmartRock sensor enclosing multiple sensing units, i.e., a triaxial accelerometer, strain gauges, and a Micro Controlling Unit (MCU) which can execute the built-in smart-computing algorithm in real-time. Finally, some example applications will be also introduced such as Large-Scale Triaxial Tests on Aggregates, reference-free bridge displacement monitoring and deformation monitoring of super large diameter shield tunnel.
