The China Highly Cited Researchers list uses the globally authoritative citation and indexing database Scopus as the statistical source of Chinese scholars' research achievements, and analyzes the research performance of Chinese scholars using the method developed by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy. Since its first release in 2015, it has been released for the ninth time by 2023, receiving high attention from numerous domestic and foreign media and scholars. Elsevier provided data support and technical implementation for this list.

By releasing the China Highly Cited Researchers list, Elsevier deeply analyzes and recognizes Chinese scholars in different stages of their research careers from multiple dimensions, and showcases their research performance. It is not only committed to systematically showcasing the distribution of talents in China's scientific research field but also presents the composition of advantages of various institutions and universities in some key disciplines, breakthroughs and innovations in key technical research and other areas. Starting with the status of institutional research talents, the list depicts the portrait of talents with research talents at the core and with the dimensions involved in the forefront of scientific research, showcasing academic advantages. While fully demonstrating the forefront of China's scientific and technological development, it focuses on the development and construction of disciplines, making efforts to assist the Chinese academic community in grasping research opportunities, empowering scientific and technological development, and social progress.
