Highway and Railway Engineering is one of the earliest disciplines of traffic and transportation engineering in China. It has a strong and well respected faculty, including one member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, two Changjiang scholars, 10 doctoral supervisors, 9 professors, and 10 associate professors. It offers multilevel of degree seeking programs, from the undergraduate level of Highway and Railway engineering to its master and doctor’s level. The faculty members of Highway and Railway engineering were once awarded as innovative teaching group at the national level.
The discipline carries out the cutting edge researches on pavement structure design and research, design theory and technology of long-span steel bridge deck, new material and technology of pavement structure, expressway maintenance technology, CAD based expressway design, etc. In the last five years, it has published 850 research papers in the principal academic journals, more than 12 academic textbooks and monographs. Meanwhile, it has won 16 awards, including 3 National Prizes for progress in science and technology, 5 Provincial Prizes for progress in science and technology, and one first prize and one second prize of national teaching achievement. Furthermore, it has participated in numerous national and provincial key expressway projects, such as lane-widening construction of Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway, Hefei-Nanjing Expressway, the Second and Third Nanjing Bridges across Yangtze River, Jiangyin Yangtze Bridge, Runyang Bridge, Sutong Bridge and Nanjing subway.
